The river Stryi - the potential of the future (“The River Project”)

Being on this web site means that you or your organization are personally interested in the project. Maybe you are thinking about why you should spend time and money on this project .... why in the village Verhnyachka, when in Ukraine there are many areas that need help and in more infrastructural areas .... and many more "why?".

We have a succinct answer ... Ukraine is a beautiful country and full of traditions. It is the Ukrainian villages that have the unique beauty and color that they want to preserve and develop. It is the Ukrainian villages that have a unique natural resource that enables the sustainable development of generations. And, unfortunately, it is the Ukrainian villages that face the problem every year when young people do not have support in their own future in their native land. The name of this problem is youth migration. If we look the truth of the future in the eye, we will get in the foreseeable future a single result - "Ghost village", a territory without a future.

But we do not dwell on the negative notes. That is why the idea of creating the social project “The River Project” was born.

The mission of the project is to restore the cleanup of the river Stryi in accordance with the concept of “plastic free” in the area of the village Verhnyachka.

The Stryi River is one of the largest right tributaries of the Dniester River, originating in several streams on the northwestern slopes of the Yavirnik Mountain of Verkhovinsky Ridge near the village of Verkhnyachka, Skole district, Lviv region. That is why the project organizers decided to start cleaning the river from plastic waste in the area of village Verhnyachka.

Stryi River is both a natural resource for the livelihoods of the local population and a complete tourist resource. That is why we have two main goals of the project:

  • Restoration of the Stryi ecosystem to conserve biological flora and fauna.
  • Development of tourist attraction of the destination.

What will the inhabitants of the village Verhnyachka get, as a result of the project implementation:

  1. Restoration of the eco-system of one of the largest Carpathian river.
  2. Raising the awareness of local residents about environmental hazards and how to deal with them.
  3. Increasing the level of tourist attractiveness of the region among locals, domestic and foreign tourists (village tourism, green tourism, extreme tourism).
  4. Potential for implementation of innovative agro-industrial technologies.
  5. Potential to increase the investment attractiveness of the territory and create jobs for locals.

The River Project is the first phase of The Valley Project. The implementation strategy is simple. At the same time, we emphasize that only in cooperation with local residents, Ukrainian and foreign volunteers, representatives of territorial administration, will we be able to achieve the expected results.

The project strategy includes the following steps:

  1. Cleaning of the river Stryi and the coastal zone from plastic waste near the village Verhnyachka.
  2. Packaging and disposal according to required standards.
  3. Provide every resident and guest of the village with cotton bags of their own tailoring (locally produced by the Verkhnyachka’s craftsmen) for hiking to the store or to relaxing. This way, we will be able to reduce plastic waste ourselves.
  4. Introduction of an environmental education course for children and young people and modern methods of supporting the environment for a happy future.
  5. Environmental promotion campaign in support of environmental protection.

We invite everyone who cares to join the project!

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
